How Stray Kids Got Started?

 
Stray Kids is a South Korean band. The new group of eight initially started as a nine-member crew. These fantastic teenagers include Bang, Changbin, Han, Lee, and Seungmin. The others are I.N, Hyunjin, Felix, and Woojin. Sadly, Woojin left this bonded team of friends in 2019.

The youngsters’ journey began in 2017. In August 2017, JYP Entertainment launched a new reality show called—Stray Kids. It was an all-male survival show. To give fans a bite of the show, the label released a music video entitled—Hellevator. Also, other teasers were unveiled.

Later, the song was launched as a digital single. Then, with the nine members intact, JYP released the band’s pre-debut entitled—Mixtape. This EP has seven songs written and composed by the youngsters. In addition, it contains songs they performed at the survival show. JYPE released it on 8th January 2018 to excite fans.

On 25th March 2018, the label unveiled the group’s EP entitled—I Am Not at Jangchung Area. It came along with the music and performance videos like District 9, Grow Up, and Mirror. “I Am Not” enjoyed number four on Gaon’s Album Chart. In March, it sold over 54,000 copies.

On 14th April 2018, Stray Kids had its first international experience. First, the band performed at KCON in Japan. It was an ecstatic act. Then, on 12th July, the label announced the band’s second EP—I Am Who. It took JYP only 24 hours to release it to the market.

Three months on, and the Stray Kids third EP followed. It was called “I Am You.” The announcement was held at Olympic Hall. And later, on 21st October, the album was released. Stray Kids used the first quarter of 2019 to tour Asia. Precisely, they toured Bangkok and Korea.

On 25th March 2019, JYP released the group’s fourth EP – Clé 1: Miroh. It marks the Stray Kids’ debut first anniversary. Also, on M Countdown, the album earned the band’s first music win on 4th April. Then, a little over two months, Yellow Wood became Stray Kids’ first unique album.

It was released on 19th June 2019. Again, after four months, JYPE unveiled—Double Knot as a digital single. Finally, after a few delays, Clé: Levanter was released on 9th December. On 24th January 2020, Stray Kids unveiled its English version. This covered Double Knot and Levanter.

Also, the band released its first Japanese single album—Top on 3rd June. The Korean and English versions followed later. These versions were released ten and seventeen days apart. Luckily, the anime, Tower of God, used Top as its theme song.

On 1st June 2020, “Go Live” became the band’s first studio album. Besides music, the teens are brand ambassadors. On 18th June 2019, the Korea Ministry of Culture appointed them as honorary ambassadors. They were also the models for Wego, a Japanese Clothing Line.

Who Is the Oldest Stray Kid?


Stray Kids derive their strength from eight talented musicians. Interestingly, apart from Lee Felix, born in Australia, the rest were born in South Korea. Bang Chan, the lead vocalist, is the oldest member, while Yang Jeongin (I.N) is the youngest.

Who Is the Leader of Stray Kids?

Christopher Bang (Bang Chang) is the leader of the band. He was born on 3rd October 1997 in Seoul, South Korea. He is a songwriter, composer, and producer. Bang Chan can also rap and dance well. Though you might not be aware, Chang has a family link to Australia.

My Final Thoughts On Stray Kids

JYP Entertainment, a South Korean record label, discovered these aspiring musicians via its reality show—Stray Kinds in 2017. Initially, they were composed of nine boys before Woojin bowed out. The reason for his departure is only known to stakeholders. It was a sad moment!

The eight members include Chang, Lee, Changbin, and Hyunjin. The rest are Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. Critics regard this band as one of the promising groups to come out from South Korea. Since 2018, this magnificent group has achieved a lot in a short period.
